儿童放学后独自回家无人照看是现今中国常见现象，而这些儿童也因此被称为“挂钥匙儿童”，那么因为丈夫上夜班不得不独守空房的妻子则相应地被称为latchkey wife（挂钥匙妻子）。
“Latchkey wife” is based on the phrase "latchkey kid." “Latchkey wife” refers to a wife who comes home from work to an empty house, left to her own defenses during the evening, while husband works opposite shift.
“挂钥匙妻子”是基于“挂钥匙儿童”而产生的新词。“挂钥匙妻子”指那些因为丈夫值夜班而不得不下班后独守空房的妻子。
